Centro Studi ed Iniziative Europeo (CE.S.I.E) was established in 2001 on the inspiration of the leading Italian sociologist Danilo Dolci. It is engaged in the promotion of cultural, formative, scientific and economic development at both local and international levels, with a special focus on the Euro-Mediterranean region and Latin America.
CE.S.I.E develops activities at both local and international levels which are constantly interlinked.
CE.S.I.E’s international activities include:
- Management + Coordination of projects in the Socrates-Grundtvig, EuroMed Youth Programme, Youth in Action Programme, Anna Lindh Foundation;
- Partner in projects in the above programmes;
- Youth exchanges, training courses, workshops and partnership-building seminars;
- Sending and hosting of volunteers through international exchanges, European Voluntary Service, National Civil Service abroad and the Leonardo da Vinci programme;
- Coordination and/or participation in projects of international research on immigration, disability, equal opportunities, exchange of good practice in youth work and the diffusion of maieutic methodology;
- Projects of international cooperation;
- Coordination and participation in local, regional and international networks of organisations working in the same field.
CE.S.I.E’s partners include countries of the Euro-Mediterranean region, and also countries outside of Europe.
At the local level, CE.S.I.E works primarily in one of the most disadvantaged zones in the historical centre of Palermo. This area is characterised by high levels of unemployment, micro-criminality and immigration.
CE.S.I.E’s local activities include:
- Implementation of local activities relating to the Programmes stated above;
- Socio-cultural actions to include marginalised people- refugees, asylum seekers, settled immigrants, people with disabilities, women, people who are socially or culturally marginalized.
- Information dissemination and promotion of youth mobility (through European and Italian programmes – National Civil Service, EVS);
- Reciprocal Maieutic Methodology workshops (a communication process based on non-violence and active participation) in schools and within informal groups;
- Research-action collaboration with University of Palermo;
- Seminars and training courses on different thematics.
